Adoption and Marketing
When asking yourself as to why you should adopt, there is a lot to consider. How do we become adoptive parents? Where do we go to get information? Is there someone that could guide us? These are some of the most common questions that sometimes discourages people from adoption.
November is National Adoption Month, and a lot of agencies promote adoption on social media, commercial, radio…etc. Marketing is an important factor in the adoption process. There are six key phases in the adoption journey: Initial Motivation, Research, Engagement, Final Decision, Adoption Process and After the Adoption Process. The initial motivation can vary from person to person. One night, I was watching a promotional video on Facebook about foster and adoptive parents. The promotional video caught our attention and motivated my husband and I to research local agencies. We also started to engage more in Facebook groups to ask questions and watched testimonial videos that we found in the agency’s website and YouTube.
Once we reached out to an agency, they very quickly schedule an orientation for us. This helped us in our decision to pursue in becoming foster to adopt parents. We started the foster to adopt process by submitting required paperwork, taking classes, and doing a background check. The agency was very helpful and were communicating with us on a weekly basis. They also sent us video links and additional information to help us educate our extended family on the process. Luckily, we received the opportunity to do a private adoption and thanks to all steps we already took, we were quickly approved to become our sons’ legal guardians. After we completed the adoption process, my husband and I started to advocate for others to become foster or adoptive parents. I would share articles or videos with friends and family members through social media.
If it was not for the promotional video, we would not have known about agencies and programs available to help with the process of becoming foster or adoptive parents. I work at 5+8, a great marketing and branding agency, and one of their clients is The Way Home Adoption. Thanks to agencies like 5+8 and The Way Home Adoption working together to bring more awareness on adoption, more and more potential parents are being informed. Why adopt? If you ever have this question, reach out to a local agency to get more informed. Don’t let the fear of not knowing what to do from becoming a parent to a child in need. My son is the greatest blessing we could ever ask for. He has brought so much joy and love not only to my husband and myself, but also to the rest of our family.
