What do I do when I'm not doing the things I should be doing? I make. Literally anything.
Remember being a little young, adult-ish thing trying to figure out what your passions were? I remember getting so frustrated in HS because I couldn't figure out what I was good enough at, that would make a real impact in this world. I’d daydream in class picturing myself in different career paths. Mrs. Chaney makes me laugh. Mostly because I’d probably just want to play games with the kids instead of teaching them how to read and stuff. I can't do blood so that crosses out the medical field (vet too). A professional scuba diver still sounds great minus the whole being underwater with sharks thing.
I remember reading something one night that said “whatever you find yourself doing consistently while you procrastinate is what you should be doing, make a career of that." (I changed the sentence to my liking so don’t come at me if it’s a real quote). That kinda changed everything for me - after I tried to ignore it for years anyway.
What do I do when I'm not doing the things I should be? I make. Literally...anything! I remember making a ridiculous bookmark of like 15 of my close friend's faces. Well, 1/4 of their face... really, just a collage of their eyes in black and white. I printed them on glossy paper and printed one for each of them. I'm laughing now but I was so damn proud of it!
I love how life works out. I still do silly things like that for people in hopes it will make their day. I also get to use that fire to make things for people in hopes it brings value to their lives – and especially their business. I get to see people's faces light up while they talk about their business, which they may have thought of since they were 13. I get the opportunity to take those dreams and create something tangible, that we're both proud to share with the world so the world can feel that magic too. I get the satisfaction of knowing that I'm doing my best to bridge the gap between a dream and a reality. Helping people, their careers, and their families. It's not just a pretty color palette or a cheesy collage bookmark. It's so much more and I'm grateful. I still can't believe I get paid to do this!
Just like anything in life, it takes a bit to see the whole vision unfold. But man, when you do, it’s full force and fast rainbows. Whatever that means.
